About Me

I am a transplanted Scot, who left Scotland in the 70's and emigrated to Canada. As with all Scots I am very proud of my heritage and learning more about my roots. My aunt had been researching my paternal family tree for about 30 years the old fashioned way, correspondence, visiting registrar offices, genealogy groups, etc. Over those many years she amassed a wealth of information and although I was always interested in what she found, I wasn't actively involved in my own research. That all changed 2 years ago!

Inspiration

This site was inspired by my mother and sister Lesley. Mum said rightly so that it's a shame that we don't keep in touch with all of our extended family members who are spread out around the globe. Lesley was going to start a newsletter and email it out every quarter, but I thought that a website would be a better way to communicate, and would provide a permanent archive for our stories and memories.

Then almost 2 years ago I added a family tree program, became obsessed with genealogy, and since then using the wealth of research available over the Internet, the site has expanded to include a large collection of historical information, pictures and documentation about our family tree, which now has about 1,500 individuals. The site was basically 'private', and was only meant for the use of my extended family. I recently 'revamped' the site and changed the configuration to allow me to expand the search worldwide in a 'public' forum specifically aimed at researching and sharing information about my surname CRUICKSHANKS and all the variations of it.

Dedication

The site is dedicated to Margaret Cruickshanks (Maw),  (1888-1991),

my paternal grandmother, the matriarch of our branch of the illustrious Cruickshanks clan,
her husband William, and children, Alan, Catherine, Charles and Donald.
